I just found out that my Psych 1 teacher is dead. Professor Christian Hart. He was one of the most amazing teachers that I've ever had, challenging the ways I think, the models that I'm trapped in and so on. I'm numb, traveling up to the brink of tears and then back down. I've never known a teacher of mine to die before...I'm quite shaken, moreso than I would have expected. I need a hug, a large one.
There's a memorial service this saturday at 11am at SMC.
Here's the email:
"For any students who knew Professor Hart, please read the following email from the Psych Dept. Chair:
My Dear Colleagues:
As you may know, this Saturday (Sept. 12th) at 11 AM, we will celebrate and remember the extraordinary life and work of Professor Christian Hart. This event is being organized by his family, friends and colleagues. The event will be held in HSS 165. There will be a reception afterward in the beautiful fountain garden just outside the room. The psychology department would be very grateful if you would announce this event to your students. We also ask that you encourage them to tell other former students of Christian's who may not have heard about the memorial.
Thank you so much.
Lisa Farwell,
Chair, Psychology"
I need a hug.

Christian's memorial service was wonderful. It was video taped and will be posted on YouTube soon.
His obituary is posted here:

Several of his students attended the service, and two spoke very touchingly about him.
Christian was a very close friend of mine and he will be missed.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to talk about him.
